Tired Legs….

by Mike Kosof

After a bit of a tough ride yesterday, we are now fully into the West Kootenay.

We awoke in Rossland after having a wonderful sleep at the Prestige Inn. A bit foggy outside, but hey, no snow.

This morning our journey takes us from Castlegar to Proctor.

We started the ride after being fuelled up by a fantastic breakfast served by the ladies auxiliary at the Castlegar Legion. Then, off we went!

As we rode along we are were greeted by many friendly waves and honks, so good for the spirit of the team.

We had a quick stop at the South Slocan Fire hall, one of our generous sponsors,  and then did a little tour of the rail trail and tunnel as we headed toward Nelson.

We were lucky with the wind and made quick time through to the Nelson RCMP detachment where we were treated to a magnificent lunch with a gorgeous view of Kootenay Lake and BOB(big orange bridge). At the Nelson detachment, the riders were lucky enough to meet one of our little ambassadors (who was off to Children’s Hospital imminently). We were once again reminded of why we raise funds and ride, being ever so happy to help this wee boy and his family.

After lunch off we went, winding out the North Shore towards Proctor. Beautiful views greeted us as we rode along, quickly arriving at the Harrop Ferry.

Once across the ferry, we enjoyed the smooth pavement and minimal traffic as we finished the days ride. We loaded up our bikes, but not before being treated to snacks at the home of a former Cops for Kids rider. Thanks Bill and Frances for all the support !

Back to Nelson, for a freshen up at the Prestige Lakeside Inn before heading to Lakeside Park and dinner hosted by the Nelson Rotary Club. Great weather and the outdoor venue made for a special dinner.

Tonight we prep for the next leg, Balfour to Creston, stay tuned.
