Off we go…smoky skies and 129 kms
by Laurie Rock, Oliver
Today marked the start of the 25th year for the Cops for Kids bike ride with many families, friends and sponsors gathered outside of the Sandman Hotel in Kelowna. With some inspirational speeches off we go southbound, covering various communities along the way.
We were very fortunate to meet many families and little ambassadors throughout these communities. The heartfelt gratitude and stories that these families shared put things into perspective and again reminded us as to why this ride is so important. The strength and courage that these families have endured is what will help us continue to turn our pedals and make those hard climbs; all for those little hearts and souls that will be helped.

The road traveled took us to Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, Oliver and Osoyoos. Each community welcomed up with open arms, a place to rest, replenish our fluids and feed our bodies. The road traveled provided us with amazing scenery even with the smoky skies, other motorists honking their horns in support and even a beautiful bald eagle stopping to cheer us on perch in a tree.

The day ended with the members of the Elks Lodge in Osoyoos feeding us dinner; and already preparing for the team to arrive the following year. This again a reminder of the amount of support and dedication that goes behind our cycling team; but with the common goal of supporting kids and families.

Good night tucked in at Spirit Ridge. Tomorrow is tackling the Anarchist and meeting our old friend the Sasquatch.
