A different type of ride

By Brett S – Merritt

Most of us ride almost every day – mainly in a ford explorer, but often in a variety of other vehicles depending on our needs, or by the nature of the position we occupy. Regardless of the vehicle we drive, we all do it for the same reason: to serve the needs of our community, and protect them as best we can.

Tomorrow, we ride for the same reason, but in a much different way. Tomorrow, we squish ourselves into Lycra suits, tie laces, and clip in. Tomorrow, we ride bicycles. Nearly 1000km over 10 days: for those of us who are new, the unknown seems a daunting task. Most of us are excited, many anxious, and some outright fearful that we may not be able to keep up with everyone, or be physically capable of finishing the ride. But these emotions, as well as the ride itself, are temporary; they pale in comparison those of the families and young children who are experiencing, or living in the aftermath of, a medical, physical, or traumatic crisis. And so, we ride. For them.

We ride because year on year, need is increasing for the funds and services this organization provides. With interest rates and cost of living on the rise, Cops for Kids has assisted over 350 children and families in the first 8 months of 2023 alone – more than all of 2022 combined. We ride for our community, but we can only raise awareness. It’s your donations that allow this organization to exist, and we thank you for the generosity that allows us to continue in our efforts supporting local children and families. You ride with us.

Stay tuned….
