Along Kootenay Lake
by Brett Urano, Creston
We all woke up refreshed at the Prestige Waterfront in Nelson today. It is one of my favourite hotels we stay at during the ride with it being right on the lake. We all enjoyed a quick breakfast together then set off in the vehicles to the Kootenay Lake Ferry.
We took the ferry from Balfour to Kootenay Bay and heading straight up the hill on our bikes once we disembarked. Getting off the ferry feels like home for me since I’m a Creston officer. I loved the ride up because we get to see lots of the students at the Crawford Bay School. My highlights of the ride are always meeting children and I hope our visit to the school is a highlight for their day like it is mine.
We headed off to an amazing taco lunch with the Kootenay Lake Lions Club and then continued to ride along the lake road with a fews stops to recharged our water and have some snacks on our trek to Creston. Riding along Kootenay Lake is my favourite part because of how beautiful it is. I also get the chance to try and beat my Strava times along the way.
We rode into town and were greeted by town council with a donation to our cause. We headed off to the Creston RCMP Detachment where we were shown much love on the ride through town and had a great welcoming crowd when we landed at the detachment. I personally felt a huge welcome to my community and I am sure my fellow riders did as well.
Tonight we were treated to a spaghetti dinner from the Creston Rotary Club, to fuel us on to Cranbrook tomorrow!
