Donation of Securities Supports Children in Crisis
KELOWNA, BC – [November 30, 2015] – The largest single donation in the foundation’s 15 year history, will keep children in South Eastern BC smiling a little more these days. Kelowna businessman and philanthropist Al Hildebrandt announced Monday a $100,000 gift to Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation. The gift of securities, marked the largest single donation for the Kelowna based charity.
Mr. Hildebrandt has recently retired from the company he founded, QHR Technologies Inc. and has decided to give back to a community he loves. Part of giving back, is supporting local organizations like Cops for Kids. “Cops for Kids is very special to me,” said Hildebrandt. “The team of RCMP members who go above and beyond to help children who need it most is what inspires me to give in the way that I can; which is by giving financially.”
For Cops for Kids, it’s a donation that will make a significant impact to families who need it most. “When families contact Cops for Kids, they’re in real crisis, their world is upside down, their child is ill” states Cops for Kids Rider & President, Gail Harrison. “This donation not only challenges others in our communities to support Cops for Kids, but it will also add a heart warming insurance that allows us to be there for families in their time of need. Families can’t plan a crisis, so we have to plan to be there when they need us.”
Many know Cops for Kids for their signature 1,000km cycling fundraiser each September, but that need for help is year-round. “Even though our ride has wrapped up for the year, our team of RCMP members and partnering law enforcement agencies are still out in each community serving and assisting families every day. We truly appreciate our donor, mentor, and friend Al,” summarized Harrison.
A timely gift for the charity, but something the Hildebrandt’s have been pondering for a while. “We’ve been supporting Cops for Kids for four years now,” said Al. “Irene and I wanted to make a meaningful gift, and as tomorrow is Giving Tuesday across Canada, we thought it was the perfect time to donate to such an impactful and well-managed charity. I personally challenge others to take the time and give in the ways that they’re able. Year-end is a perfect time to support a local foundation such as Cops for Kids.”
Funds donated to Cops for Kids will support ongoing requests from families who require transportation and accommodation support during a child’s medical treatment, medications, specialized therapies, learning tools and mobility aids.
