North Okanagan Sunshine
by Nick Reimann, Vernon
Another hot sunny day in the books for our team.
We left Kamloops this morning with a few jackets and vest on certain riders, even though our first assignment this morning was the climb from Monte Creek to Monte Lake. First thing in the morning, this hill is a lung burner that got us going. After a quick regroup we cruised into Falkland, where we sat outside to enjoy our lunch donated by Sedo’s Deli in Salmon Arm and even watermelon & ice cream.
The wind was blowing today, but only a few mechanical issues meant that we had a little bit of time to spare so we were able to stop by Olympia Cycle for a quick photo. Neil has been so generous helping the riders prepare for the ride as a way to give back, so it was great for the team to meet with him.
From there, we cruised into the Vernon detachment where we were met by Home Depot and some of the Little Ambassadors who benefit from our fundraising efforts. We met with a little girl today who’s life has been changed by Cops for Kids funding, and she had made us a card to let us know how much she appreciates us. I think the cupcakes were also a bonus to meeting with the team.
We’ve come together as a team, and we’re riding strong as a group. Tomorrow, after a short ride into Kelowna we will say “see you soon” until next year after the ride of a lifetime. It’s hard to see it end….
