On the 4th Day
by Ryan Danilowich, Kelowna
After two gruelling climb days the 2022 Cops for Kids riders prepared to embark on day # 4 of the ride. We departed from our respective hotels in Rossland early and met up at the Castlegar Legion for breakfast. Thanks to the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort, the Flying SteamShovel Inn, and the Josie Hotel for the hospitality.
Most of our riders were sore from two days of travelling up the Anarchist and then the Blueberry Paulson. To ease the pain we had another excellent breakfast prepared for us that helped give us energy for another day of hard riding from the ladies at the Castlegar Legion.
The weather was threatening rain and smoke was thick in the air, but we started off with a breakneck pace that carried us through the early part of the morning. We were lucky and the rain didn’t amount to much and we were able to shed some layers and were able to enjoy the beautiful ride into Nelson.
We arrived at the Nelson detachment and enjoyed a terrific lunch and then set out again, this time for Procter. After a quick water/snack break we arrived at the Procter ferry to find out that we had just missed it. At least we got a bit of a break to rest up before the final leg of the journey.
Once off the ferry we had a race to the end of the road in Procter. Everyone put out a strong effort and we were all feeling pretty tired by the end. The final stop of the day was at the Procter Bakery where we were treated to delicious cinnamon buns and coffee before the trip back to Nelson.
Finally in Nelson we had a quick shower and off to dinner which was prepared for us by the Nelson Rotary club. The food was amazing. Our communities and sponsors treat us so well, and we are always impressed by their commitment to our cause. Almost half way through the ride and spirits are high and I look forward to visiting more of our local communities and getting a chance to meet some of the children that have been helped by this great charity.
